oDesk Names Former OpenTable CEO And CitySearch Founder Thomas Layton As Executive Chairman

Online work platform oDesk is announcing that Thomas Layton is joining the company as Executive Chairman. In this role, Layton will work alongside current CEO Gary Swart in an active operating role. oDesk offers a “marketplace for talent” that makes it easy for companies to hire workers remotely.
Most recently, Layton served as CEO of Metaweb Technologies until itsacquisition by Google in 2010. He previously spent more than six years as the CEO of OpenTable and was the co-founder of CitySearch.
Last month, contractors earned a record $23.5 million through oDesk, while businesses posted more than 100,000 jobs to the service. The company expects the overall market for online work to grow to an estimated $1 billion in 2012.
